We’re thrilled to announce that Girrawheen Senior High School has triumphed once more in the WA State Solar Car Challenge, clinching the top spot for an incredible fourth consecutive year! Our first-place vehicle, aptly named Flammable, was skilfully crafted by talented students Edward Guo and Jack Lai. But that’s not all—another of our teams also secured 3rd place with the car Ochroma, built by a dedicated group including Mathias Creemers, Liam Rowe, Rose, Reda Ramlan, and Fiat Po.
Over the years, our passionate teams have travelled to Tasmania to compete in the National Solar Car Challenge, proudly bringing home first place in 2021. This ongoing success can be attributed to the enthusiasm and hard work of our students in the STEM Club, who dedicate their mornings, lunchtimes, and after-school hours to design and build these innovative solar cars.
A special shout-out to our STEM Club Coordinator, Charan Pabla, who was recognized as the 2021 Premier’s Secondary Teacher of the Year at the WA Education Awards. Her leadership has played a pivotal role in nurturing our young engineers and their ambitious projects.
This year, all our teams made it into the top eight, but unfortunately, racing against each other meant that two of our cars were knocked out. However, the journey continues! We are excited to announce that we have been invited to represent WA at the Australian-International Model Solar Car Challenge (AIMSC) in Sydney on December 7th and 8th. Our top two teams will be showcasing their skills on a national stage!
