WINNERS of the WA Education Awards 2022!

On Friday 18th November, at an opulent ceremony for the 2022 WA Education Awards was held at WA Museum Boola Bardip, in which Girrawheen Senior High School was named as the winner of the WA Education Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

This prestigious award follows on from Girrawheen SHS STEM Teacher, Charan Pabla, being named as the WA Premier’s Secondary Teacher of the Year in the 2021 WA Education Awards, where the school was also a finalist for Secondary School of the Year.

Representative staff from Girrawheen SHS where overwhelmed with joy when making their way to the stage to accept the award, where Principal Barbara Newton, gave an acceptance speech full of emotion and pride, in which she said:

“I want to congratulate, thank and acknowledge the outstanding work of the Girrawheen SHS staff.  Our dedicated and skilled teachers and support staff work as a team to create our rich learning environment and strong culture of both academic and personal development”.

Barbara said, “All students at Girrawheen are expected to learn no matter where their starting point. Our teachers are experts at building relationships with our students, providing support and agile teaching to motivate both learning and self belief. We provide an array of extra-curricular activities to extend learning and create avenues for success and we want every child to achieve success, knowing that success will look different for each child. Together we ensure their learning is enjoyable so it continues throughout life.”

“Our motto, Unity is Strength reflects our team effort, our family values, our work with students, our partnerships with parents and other organisations such as Clontarf and Stars Foundations and our ethos of care. We know we get strong results, Girrawheen Senior High School punches above its weight! I am so proud of our staff and students and grateful to be recognised”.

Barbara ended by thanking  Director General, Lisa Rodgers and the Department of Education, for recognising Girrawheen Senior High School.
